Alan Jarrett Ecuador is a diversity of climate, culture, flora and fauna like nowhere else on Planet Earth! Over 40 years coming and going, living, owning my own business there, married to my bella Quitena, I can truly say I still don't know all of Ecuador. That will change in a big way as we retire there. In my heart, I feel as though I never left.
I joined expat.com on 22 October 2011.

Worked with an Agricultural Engineer in Olmedo, located in the province of Loja, to learn the coffee growing process from seedling to harvest. The intent was to find a connection direct with U.S. Importers for the Specialty Coffee from Ecuador that currently IS NOT being imported to the U.S.
Deep in the country! Quiet except for the braying of mules, burros, roosters and dogs. I was the only Caucasian and therefor instantly known. I was even mistaken for a Catholic Priest! But people in the country are very friendly, humble, and survivors.
Ecuador is a diversity of climate, culture, flora and fauna like nowhere else on Planet Earth! Over 40 years coming and going, living, owning my own business, married to my bella Quitena, I can truly say I don't know all of Ecuador. But for you, I can offer excellent advice
The mountains, still lots of country, have family there, speak Spanish fluently so I enjoy the country to the fullest and will retire there soon!
Economic discrepancy, political greed and corruption that keep this a 3rd World country.
Established first commercial yeast doughnut business in 1972-74 and again from 1977-84. Built small specialty bakery and developed 3 coffee shops. Primary clientele were wholesale to La Favorita Supermarkets now known as Super/Mega Maxi. Also served many school snack bars and supplied vendors with route sales. Menu items included BBQ Pork sandwiches, sub-sandwiches, Danish pastry, Espresso coffees, many varieties of glazed, frosted and filled doughnuts, cheesecake, brownies, pizza and fresh baked breads. All items were scratch baked and made on premises. All formulas were developed by myself and on occasion with help from my bakers.
It's affordable, still laid back and full of awesome places to visit, vacation, and enjoy beauty condensed into one small country you can not find anywhere else in the world!
Still love the country but the city of Quito has gotten too big and too congested with cars and crime.
