I met my wife when she was backpacking through Canada with some friends. They went home, but she stayed for a second visa. After that we went travelling for a few years and we've now been back on her home turf of Glasgow for about three years. Update. After nearly five years in Glasgow, my wife and I have moved to Kelowna, BC, Canada. She has been granted her Permanent Residency with me as her sponsor. We had to spend a difficult three months apart when I moved here ahead of her to set up shop as it were.
