I'm an American English instructor working in Jizan,Saudi Arabia. Previously I worked in Taiwan teaching for more than 6 years and in Thailand before that. I'm a widower. I'm pretty outgoing and not shy. It's really boring and kind of lonely here. I work with only males, teach only males and sometimes I get tired of living in an all-male world here. I don't live in a big city like Riyadh or Jeddah. I live in a small backwater called Jizan, near the Yemeni border and the Red Sea. It's a quiet place. There's nothing for me and my co-workers to do except go to work and make lesson plans. When not working or doing something work-related, I stay busy surfing the net and hoping to make some good friends here to pass the time in a nice way. I have additional info in my profile.
I joined expat.com on 19 October 2010.
Teaching young men at a local polytechnic college
Well...uh...uh.....I guess nothing positive comes to mind. The pay is good?
Don't get me started......
I've been to so many countries either in my previous military career or later as a teacher, but I'll confine my information to my latest job prior to coming to KSA. I recently came here from Taiwan where I worked for 6 years. Prior to that I worked in Thailand. I'm retired career military but I still love to travel and see the world. Taiwan was great. I had a good time there.
Moderate cost of living, good central location in Asia to fly to all Asian holiday spots around it (SG, BKK, BJ, Shanghai, Manila, etc etc. Any holiday destination was no more than 4 or 5 hours flying in any direction, usually less. Lots of other foreigners (Thai's, Filipinos, other westerners) to party with. I found the locals a little too straight-laced for my partying style so I normally partied with the Filipinos, Thai's or other westerners.
Now that I look back on it, I can't say that I really had any major dislikes about the place. It was a good gig or I wouldn't have stayed as long as I did.
