While my "country of origin" is technically the USA, my family moved to a remote coastal village in the Dominican Republic when I was six weeks old and we lived there, running a coconut farm, for almost 20 years. So I didn't return to US until I was 19, and still consider the D.R. my "real" home. I'm one of the TCKs (third culture kids) - living in the US but still longing for the tropical sand beaches of my youth. My memoir of my turbulent childhood in DR, titled "The Coconut Latitudes: Secrets, Storms and Survival in the Caribbean" comes out in Sept 2014 and is available for pre-order now from Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
