senor and i have been in Alamos now for over a year. we are working daily on the casa, and, as of August, 2009, the beams have been poured for most of the first phase of the re roofing project, almost all of our belongings are here with us and the cats, well, what can I say................

I am currently living in Mexico since June 2008
My life & projects in this location:
many, many projects. we were not ready to retire and not the types who are interested in sitting by the pool or hanging at the golf course. There isn't anything wrong with that, in fact sometimes, it sounds good, when we want a vacation. But we need projects and love keeping busy. we are remodeling and repairing an old casa we bought in alamos. we are one year into the remodel. Soon it will be new rooftime!!! I am also very busy working my glass, firing it into tiles and pendants.
My occupation:
i am a maid, a gardener, a cook, and a glassworker among other things. senor is a concrete mixer and pourer, a roofer, a floor layer,a wood door maker and those are only a small sampling of his occupations here in alamos.
What I like about this destination:
love this destination. this is a very old spanish colonial mining town, up in the foothills of the sierra madres. there is a small, wonderful expatriate community, only a handful live here year round. It is a hard working mexican community and it is a very welcoming community. we may go for days and not see another extrajanero and it is as if we are in another world. life here is whatever you want to make it. you can join in activities with other expats, take spanish classes, go to yoga, eat out with friends, or become involved with mexican activities at Casa de la Cultura or many celebrations. It is very relaxed here. we are also an hour from the sea of cortez, so we can get a beach fix real quick!
What I don't like about this destination:
I don't know? So far I am really all good with it. Again it is about what you make of it. You can make it hard or easy to live in mexico. I choose easy. And, besides, I can buy a bottled starbucks if I feel like it in navajoa, an hour away..............

My life & projects in this location:
Senor and was born and raised in the usa. I was born in germany and raised in the usa. Together, for 32 years, we lived outside of Seattle in the north cascade foothills and loved it there. we raised our two children and alot of cats there. after much research and a lengthy trip to several mexico destinations, we sent our youngest son to college in 2007, and began planning our move to alamos, sonora, mexico. in seattle senor and i were avid soccer players, coaches and viewers. we truly miss that part of our lives in the northwest. i will admit that i miss the steady seattle rain, too. We also hosted an enormous christmas party for many people each friday before christmas and we miss that as well. i also miss starbucks.
My occupation:
I worked for starbucks and it does not get any better than that. I absolutely love the company, the people, the training, the benefits and all of my regular customers...........when not at the store, i was at home in my glasspondstudio, firing glass or working it with torches to create all kinds of fun things. senor was an attorney in seattle and as far as he is concerned.......asta la vista baby.
What I liked about this destination:
we moved to the seattle area in 1977, after living in Santa Fe, New Mexico. seattle is a busy, vibrant, lively area. In the cascade foothills outside of seattle we were in the country and life was much more relaxed for us, very down home, quiet, rural, yet close to the seattle mainstream if we needed it. our kids grew up knowing everyone in town and we made friendships that we will cherish forever.
What I didn't like about this destination:
honestly there is nothing to dislike about the northwest, but recently we found the political system to be beyond our understanding, come on, $1,200 just to get a deck permit to rebuild a small deck? fined for cutting down a tree on your own property without getting a permit? hmmm....but we would never have left the northwest for those reasons, we were just ready for a new adventure!
