Traveling to New Zealand

If you intend to travel to New Zealand for a stay up to 3 months, a passport valid at least 6 months after date of arrival is necessary. New Zealand has concluded agreements with 45 countries on visa exemption. To view the list and determine if a visa is necessary to prepare your trip to New Zealand, visit the New Zealand immigration website at http://glossary.immigration.govt.nz/.

If your country is not on the visa exemption list, you will need to apply for a visa at the embassy or consulate of New Zealand in your home country.

Upon arrival, you will have to show your return ticket to the immigration officers. In order to avoid any financial problems during your stay, the New Zealand authorities require that all visitors in the country be in possession of a credit card or an amount in cash or traveler's check equivalent to $ 1,000 NZ per month and per person. If you are accomodated by relatives or friends in New Zealand, this amount will be reduced to $ 500 per month and per person.

 Good to know:

If you intend to take an internship in New Zealand for a period up to 3 months, you have to apply for a temporary work visa, even if the internship is unpaid.
