Public health system in the UAE

The public health care system in Dubai is based on a network of public hospitals where free treatments are granted to holders of the "health card". Upon presentation of official documents such as a copy of your passport, your certificate of employment, two passport photos and a signed application form, you can get your own health card at the nearest health center. The application form is available in every clinic and hospital in Dubai. You can also get an application form directly at the Ministry of Health of the United Arab Emirates.

If you go private, you will need to get an expatriate health insurance from a specialized insurance provider in Dubai.

If you are not covered by your employer's insurance provider, you should get a private insurance of your own whatsoever.

Good to know:

Hospitals, cares and treatments are of a very high quality in Dubai. Some medicines are prohibited in Dubai. Check with the Ministry of Health of the United Arab Emirates before leaving for Dubai.
