Romania and the Romanians

Romania is located in the SouthEast part of Europe, and has aproximatelly 22 million inhabitants. Most of them are Romanians, but you will also find Hungarians 6% and Gypsies 2,5%. The capital city is Bucharest, and is situated in the South East part of the country. Romania is portioned in 3 great provinces: Transylvania - in the centre and the West, Moldavia - in the East, and Valahia in the South. If you will stay in Romania you will feel the German and Austrian influnce in the West, the Russian influence in the East, and the Balkan influence in the South. As a great French diplomate once told: "Nous sommes ici aux portes de L`Orient, ou tout est pris a la legere" - meaning We are here at the gates of the Orient, where everything is taken easilly.

Living in Romania can be interesting, to say the least, if you are an expat who came here to spend a longer period of time.

In case you do not have to stay in Romania, feel free to visit the best thing this country has to offer: The danube Delta. After the Great Rief Barrier and The Galapagos, The Danube Delta has the largest population of birds, fishes, flowers and mammals.

In Transylvania you may try to find Dracula, but there are still litlle chances you will. But you can visit the Bran Castle, which is tought to have been his.

In Moldavia, you will find the Medieval monasteries, rewarded with the Unesco Golden Apple. Voronet, in particular, is famous for a unique shade of blue paintings. The modern painters have never been able to reproduce it.

In Valahia you will find Bucharest and the famous House of the People, built by Nicolae Ceausescu, the former dictator. It is the second building in the World considering the room number, after the Pentagon.
