Study in Norway

Study in Norway – Information designed for citizens of the EU-EEA:

Nationals of the EU - EEA can freely study in Norway. All they need to do is register with a Norwegian school or university, file a residence permit application for studies (a valid passport, proof of enrollment in a school or university, financial attestations and insurance certificate like the European Health Insurance Card are required). The residence permit application is free of charge and can be filed directly in Norway. For more information, please visit the UDI website at http://www.udi.no/

Citizens of the EU-EEA can also benefit from the ERASMUS programme in Norway. The ERASMUS programme is designed for students of the EEA-EU plus Turkey wishing to study in an other EU-EEA country. Diplomas and degrees obtained abroad in the framework of the ERASMUS programme are valid in your home country via the European Credit Transfer and accumulation System (ECTS). ERASMUS grants are also available to students who carry out studies in another european state via the programme.

You can find more information about the ERASMUS programme and the ERASMUS grants available directly through your home university or by visiting the European Commission website at http://ec.europa.eu/.

Study in Norway - formalities for citizens from outside the EEA-EU:

Nationals from countries outside the EEA-EU must apply for residence permits for studies at the Norwegian embassy or consulate in their home countries. The documents' checklist may vary from one country to another but generally includes: the residence permit application form (with ID photo) duly completed, passport photocopies, evidence of registration with an accredited Norwegian school or university, the study program, financial attestations, proof of accommodation in Norway and payment of the resident permit fees. For more information, please visit the UDI website at http://www.udi.no/

Note that it is possible to work up to 20h per week as a foreign student in Norway. To this end, simply apply for a part time work permit.
