Changing nearshoring/offshoring landscape: It's time for Nicaragua

Offshoring has traditionally been associated with India. In the past years maybe also with China, Malaysia, and the region of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). However, the cheap ones of today are the expensive ones of tomorrow. In the traditional outsourcing locations many companies have to compete for employees and other resources as for instance office spaces with each other. Therefore, they are looking for new opportunities and new geographical locations. It is time for Nicaragua. And that is for good reasons.

I was inspired to write this article due to the decision by eTelecare Global Solutions to invest in Nicaragua at the end of 2008. eTelecare is a US company, a provider of BPO solutions as: customer care, sales, technical support and back office services. At the end of 2008 the company opened their teleservices center in Managua, which the largest city in Nicaragua. Now the center employs about 500 professionals and is still searching for high-qualified personnel, offering the candidates excellent pay and benefits, professional workplace environment and the opportunity for growth and advancement.

Each economic decision has its reasons. Nicaragua possesses a big potential attracting foreign investments. First of all, it is one of the safest Central American countries. Its democratically elected government is now eager to motivate investors to outsource their operations into this country to create the jobs. Except of that, good communications infrastructire is the further interesting point in terms of investing in this country: Nicaragua has fully privatized telecommunications sector which is considered to be most modern, constant, and reliable in the Central American region.

Due to high unemployment rate it is possible to give the chance to the best qualified candidates at competitive rates. Giving them proper training makes it possible them to become high-quality professionals.

Outsourcing to Nicaragua helps companies to save costs and supports the emerging economy of Nicaragua in creating jobs which cannot be created by domestic companies to meet the needs of the population.
