Cheap places to shop in Singapore
We often hear how Singapore is a shopping paradise for the rich. As you stroll along Orchard Road, you see big names like Prada, Chanel, Michael Kors donning the intimidating clear glass panels. Surprisingly, most Singaporeans are willing to part with their money just to get their hands on the latest Miu Miu bag and Burberry scarf. Me? I usually feast my eyes on their new merchandises and have my boyfriend drag me away to a nearby Gong Cha to buy something we could actually afford and feel less miserable about ourselves (what with GongCha being a more premium bubble tea store). That being said, I’m still a shopaholic. When I go out, I find myself inclined to buy something or else it’d be a trip wasted. I’d rather spend money on a nice dress and skimp on lunch/dinner for two weeks. I talk myself into buying something I really like but do not need. Ultimately, the question remains, is it possible of buying nice clothes at reasonably low (who am I kidding? REALLY L
Bugis STREET
Yes, Bugis Street and unless you think 'street' and 'malls' mean the same thing, the items at Bugis+ and Bugis Junction aren't exactly the cheapest. When walking along the street, be prepared to get lost among the hundreds of people jostling with each other trying to navigate through the many small lanes branching out from the main street. The first thing that will catch your eye is the very attractive low price range from 5-20dollars. Of course the clothes there cannot boast of the same quality as those labeled Baby Phat so unless you are willing to starve for a year on food and rent, I suggest you get on the next train to Bugis. I hope by now, you don't have the worst impression of the street ' if you look hard enough, you do find good offers that are in keeping with the latest trends without hurting your purse strings.
Fareast Plaza
I don't know about the rest, but Fareast Plaza is the only mall along Orchard Road that I actually go in and find myself making a purchase. If you haven't heard of this place, it's a must-go and you will not miss it as it stands out brazenly from the other classy sophisticated landmarks there. Don't let the rundown state deter you from entering. Inside, you will find really pretty clothes, shoes and accessories that are priced as low as SGD10 all the way to SGD100. Don't worry, you probably won't be featured in the latest Tatler magazine for shopping there so don't be afraid to rummage through the clothes as you'll be surprised with the gems found there!
Anchorpoint/IMM
For those working adults that like me, find formal working attires incredibly expensive ' you can consider going to Anchorpoint/IMM to visit the G2K and Charles n Keith outlets there as items are priced lower. Well, of course you might not be able to find the perfect size all the time but with a price tag of almost 20% lower, it's worth the shot. Really great if you are on a tight budget.
Of course others may suggest places like Cotton On and Rubi but unless you want to be seen wearing the same shirt and shoes as your entire neighborhood, you should continue discovering new places elsewhere.
