In order to get a work visa in China, you’ll first have to get a work contract or a valid job offer from a Chinese employer or a foreign company established in China. To start with, send your CV to foreign companies operating in China. You could benefit from an expatriate contract including a significant number of advantages such as a full health insurance package, a relocation package or a salary in foreign currency.
Nevertheless, you could benefit from real professional opportunities by working under a local contract in China. Given the decline of expatriate contracts, being very expensive and not so much attractive for foreign companies established in China, local contracts have adapted to the foreign workforce by offering competitive wages and social benefits.
To start searching for a job in China, browse the web! You can find hundreds of websites dedicated to employment such as Monster, China jobs and many others where you can submit your CV online. Visit or contact the embassy of your home country in China to get more information about teaching jobs opportunities. You can also get useful information by contacting the economic missions or chambers of commerce of your country established in China.
With regards to your application, adapt your CV to Chinese standards by putting the emphasis on your qualifications and education (degrees are highly valued by employers in China) as well as on your English and Mandarin skills. Type your letter along Chinese standards, be clear and concise, and put forward your ambition and your motivation in line with the job you are applying to. Your cover letter must be addressed to a specific person. You can send your application in English or in the language of the chosen international company. Otherwise, send your application in Mandarin.
Once in China, develop your contacts! Edit multilingual business cards (Mandarin, English etc.) that you can easily distribute to prospective employers or in your local “network”.
