Melbourne First Marinera Competition 2012
190 Visits

Hello everybody,
One of the artistic expressions that maybe many of us enjoy which is the dance.
The past January in Peru we had the annual contest of Marinera dance that every year, takes place in the northern coastal city of Trujillo.
Among the different dances that come from every different region in Peru, the Marinera is considered the National Peruvian dance. This dance is an expression of love in which the man courts the woman while both dance gracefully. About the clothes, in northern Marinera women wear a two piece dress, and they have to dance with no shoes. Men dance with or without shoes, and both must hold a handkerchief.
During the competition you can see few couples of dancers from Sydney and Melbourne.
All of them give their best to be the champions in the open category. You can also see the different style of clothes that represents the different places where Marinera is danced.
Though competitions are nice events to see, for enjoying and dancing Marinera one doesn’t need to be a professional dancer, just to feel and follow the rhythm of music, a handkerchief and to take shoes off.
