After teaching two years in Chicago, IL I packed up my little life and shipped it abroad to Cali, Colombia on a two year contract teaching 7th grade science in a bilingual school. This is my first experience being abroad for more than 7 days, and while it has its challenges, I love it. I am learning more about my new city, country and myself everyday and soaking in as much as I can!

  • Hello Bruce,

I too am contemplating living in Columbia, in Medellin. I work in southern Argentina and live in Nevada, but am seeking a more comfortable climate for eventual retirement. I would appreciate any comments that you could share about Columbia. I hope to make an initial visit in early July.
    cheers

      • Hello!

My name is Bruce, and it is my plan to retire to South America. At this point in time my eyes are set on Manizales, largely because of it's size, location, and accessibility to colleges and universities.
I have taught history for 20 years, and have been a school counselor for the last 10. My projected date of making this transition is July 2016.

I want to work, but I am not sure if I want to teach. But, that I will probably resort to that until other opportunities arise. Mainly I am hoping to learn from people, like you, who have garnished some wisdom from their experience. Do's and things not to do. I would love to hear your stories and perhaps ask your advice on how to prepare.

My friend's wife comes from Cali, and her sister lives there. She has invited me to come to Cali this summer July/Aug to visit with her and show me around. If you are around I would enjoy meeting you and chatting, as well. Cheers! Bruce
