Georgia girl living on NZ's South Island
Great Blog. I was in NZ for a year working, now home but headed back in July for another tour in Napier. I am trying to find international health insurance that I can trust. I know I can get low cost health insurance in NZ but am on a work visa and if I get sick and cant work I will headed home with a preexisting condition. How did you handle this. Thanks if you have time to comment.

Hi Alison,
Sorry I can't help with your question; we got permanent residency through my husband's job offer so we are able to use the NZ health system. We have looked into supplemental private insurance but I don't really know any details.
Good luck with your search; Napier is supposed to be really beautiful (and warm!) Best regards.

Enjoy your blog. I was in NZ a year and a half ago...and fell in love with Dunedin. I'm looking for work in the media right now..radio, TV or print. Any suggestions? Thanks again...and congrats on "the wee one."

From Southeastern USA. Have been considering emigration to Dunedin. Have been unable to determine attitudes toward Americans. Am interested in political, religious, social attitudes. Also want reality of employment opportunities for Americans. Have centered on Dunedin due to size, similarity of climate,University center. But am concerned how Conservative Party victory impacts attitudes. Would very much appreciate an American, or even native, perspective on these issues. Am middle-aged male (educated and interested in academics and culture).

Hi!
I just came across your blog today and read the entire thing. Kind of creepy yes, but I am very very interested in New Zealand and visitng or moving there and how the culture is for an American. I am also currently in Athens, GA as a UGA student so I can very much relate to being a Southerner who love Athens. Tons of fun.
So how is it different from living in the States? Does it really feel far away and perhaps like you left part of you behind? How has it been embracing the culture and people of New Zealand? Do you feel like New Zealand is home? Lol. Sorry for all the stupid questions. I am going to enjoy my last year of UGA as a senior but then who knows, maybe New Zealand or even a study abroad! Thanks! And congratulations on a baby. Lovely! Go Dawgs!!
