hi,I dont think thay you are nuerotic or you wouldnt have had the guts to move to mexico! Any way Im a british woman living in Wasaga beach Ontario, the older I get the more I hate the snow, any advice you can give would be appreciated,is it worth considering Northern Mexico for the winters or is it cold there too?Like the idea of southern Mexico but the coastal towns look like they could get boring after 2 weeks. My problem is that I have to be on or in the water, love boating, swimming, fishing so being inland would not suit me either. regard Eileen

Hey there Eileen! Do you like the heat? If so, the Yucatan may be for you! There certainly isn't any snow... Northern Mexico is OK, maybe the Baja Peninsula some place like Guaymas or San Carlos etc. Southern Mexico aka Merida and environs is much more peaceful, less expensive and there isn't any drug-related violence that is becoming more and more frequent everywhere else in Mexico. Hope this helps... feel free to drop me an email anytime if you have more specific questions.

Hi Eileen, I do agree with Bill, Merida is defenetly a great place to be if you like the sun and the heat. In my point of view the most difficult part of living here is the heat, but if you live at the beach then you do not suffer as much as livig in the city. North of Mexico is not the real Mexico, too much american influence, too much crime, and defenetly extreme weather, too much heat and too much cold. In the South people still nice, real and peacefull, they like foreigers but they do not take adventage of you. Great culture and food, and real state is still affordable. if you live in Merida, the see is about 25 min by car. if you live at the beach the city is always good for entretainment. if you like culture, ancient history, arts and sea, the Yucatan coast offers warm withe sandy beaches. If you decide to come and visit Merida we can recomend you a very inexpensive beach hotel www.yakunah.com.mx to stay. Greetings from Arthur & Mayte.
