HI! Lived in Dubai for a year... Great possibilities when you love the outdoors and the heat. Petrol is very cheap, therefore had a jeep there... Accommodation if mostly offered in the package by the employer and quality of accommodation depends on your grade.. I was working in hotels and there they divide all workers in grades: grade E is for waiter (shares a room with two other people) and grade A is for the directors, who get a house for their family. As I was single living there, I do not know the cost of schools. Everything is located in huge shopping malls with AC, as its very hot outside of it. Hotels provide great places to eat, but rather expensive. transport with taxi is okay, but minicabs are the better option, as they are a lot cheaper. Best to befriend one taxi driver and always call him, cause then you can arrange a fixed rate, which is cheap, depending ofcourse where you are travelling to. Dubai is very Western in the Middle East. You can dress normally, but just need to be aware of the October- November Ramadam. In this period, you should not eat or drink in front of the locals, as they cannot consume anything from sunrise until sunset. Disrespecting these rules has put some of my colleagues in very difficult police situations. The cost of living really depends on what your package includes. As I was working for a hotel chain, accommodation and food was provided. I was on a very basic salary then (2600 dirhams) which is just enough as pocket money and to buy yourself some treats every month (I am a female) I hope this helps a little for those who are considering accepting offers in hotels....

It is good that you have bery good impressoin of Dubai life. You are right , But , you have enjoyed it as you had Accomodation and Food the more basic things. But have you ever applied for getting D/Licence or Renting some Space for Accomodation. I have heard that Dubai is Most expensive in regards of Resintial rents.

it is no secret that dubai rents are a killer...but with the recesion those are also coming down. the problem is there are no jobs and therefore no one left to rent .....it is a sad situation all together
