I love to cook and I'm currently trying to improve my photographic skills as well. The blog is usually about food but also sometimes about my experiences here.

    • dmcmanus - thanks so much for the compliment for the daughter, she didn't do music classes here although she went to Doha College to do her A levels, she also sang in a band here that supported Bryan Adams in 2005 in Doha.

Alex - hi :) dogs are fine here, if you are on facebook, do a search for the 'Dogs in Doha' group - excellent bunch of people who regularly get together to walk their dogs at the beach, do volunteer and rescue work for dogs and can also help give you information about relocation services for your dogs :)

Cooking is more of a challenge LOL, mainly because the supermarkets leave a lot to be desired when it comes to produce and meat. That said, Doha has a fantastic vegetable market and if you can get there in the mornings, you can get some lovely produce. Cookery books seem to be a bit thin on the ground lately although we do have a Virgin Megastore, it seems to stock mainly Arabic cookery books at the moment for some reason.

A couple of other sites to try are www.iloveqatar.net (I'm the food/restaurant reviewer for the new section to be launched soon) it's got LOTs of pages with info like cost of living, sorting out driving licenses etc. Another one is www.expatwoman.com - the qatar section has a forum, where you should be able to connect with a group of ladies here, who were (or still are) nurses before expat life and who meet regularly.

      Hope that helps :)

If you have twitter, I'm '@expatcookie' you'll also find that Doha has a massive Twitter community and its a really valuable resource for whats going on here.

      Amanda :)

      • Good Morning ExpatCookie, regards from London, where it is a lovely Spring day!!My husband is waiting to hear if he is successful in finding a post in Qatar. We have 2 lovely dogs. We are trying to contact like minded expats before we go so we can get a feel for the place. I have lived and worked as a Midwife all over Saudi so know the culture.....but am worried about the local reaction to our dogs!
We also Luuuuurve cooking and I am just gazing at the hundreds of cookery books we have!!! Can they be bought in Qatar? Also can I ask are there outside cafes where one can sit and watch the world go by? Look forward t your advice Regards Alex
