It rains a lot in Bergen. I complain about the rain often.

I moved to Bergen in the summer of '95, married the viking of my liking in the summer '98, started having his babies in the summer of '00, and didn't stop until the summer of '04. I write mostly about my kids for the delight and edification of family back in the States, but you may find some gems of wisdom about life in and among the locals if you look hard enough between the lines.

Intro calc classes at the University of Bergen come in two flavors: easy 101 and hard 111. Last year as a meteorology student I was required to take hard 111. It was awful for me. A lot of...   Read more

    • Jeda, everything you have said about Bergen is soooo true. :) Its the exact reason why I'm finally ditching the Bergans jackets for a flimsy dress (Portugal here I come!!) I just got to fed up of the rain, socialist culture and HIGH prices.
Don't mean to put anyone of Bergen as it is a beautiful city but I'm glad I'm finally leaving.
All the best to everyone (think it's a lot easier in Bergen without kiddies, in my experience).
      Take care people...Lykke til!!

      • Hi, I'm a Canadian girl living in your area. I just had a look at your blog and really liked it. Your tales are interesting and your writing is witty and funny. And your kids are adorable.
I have a blog too (in French though) but I tend to mostly post pictures since I feel like my writing sucks.

        • I would be happy to get in touch with you, answer all your questions, scare you to death with dire tales of endless rain, $20 chicken breasts, and bloody socialists EVERYWHERE, then cheerily tell you to do it anyway!

Thing is...I'm not sure how to do that...get in touch with you, that is...can you send me a private message with your email address or something like that? I don't know my way around this site very well, so I'm not sure how that sort of thing is done, but it must be possible. Please try! I'm happy to help any way I can.
