We have been living in Northern Ireland since October of 2008 while my husband, Jason, attends grad school, it's quite an adventure compared to the small town in Arkansas we are from! We have 3 beautiful children who keep us on our toes. Rebecca, Jarod. & little Alexander.

A student visa is good for the duration of you classed plus 3 months. So, if you studies start in August 2010 and ends in April 2011 your visa would be from Aug. 2010 - July 2011. That's how is was for us anyways, buy we are in Northern Ireland so it's a UK visa not an Ireland visa.

for the republic, it's possible to request a 90 day visa on arrival. the immigration officer will ask several questions, and granting is at the officer's discretion. to extend that permission to stay in the republic, or any shorter one for that matter, visit your local gardai (police) station and enquire. generally total time allowed in country is no longer than 6 months. may be shorter if you have already spent time in other EU countries. hope this is helpful.
