We left Chicago two years ago for a new life in Erlangen. We left enthusiastically, and so far, without regrets.
I am a biologist and mom of two boys from Chicago and now living permanently (hopefully) in Erlangen, Bayern, Deutschland.

Hi there... I am enjoying reading your blog. My husband and I lived in Herzogenaurach in 1969 for 2 years when in service. We spent 5 weeks in Germany this past summer and stayed a good while in Herzo rekindling old friendships. Do you ever go up to Atzlesburg to a weingarten there? We used to call it "strawberry hill", but official name was "Gasthaus zum Schloss". I presume the name as it had wonderful fruit wines. We also visited Erlangen many times... enjoy your stay..our time is only for visiting as we live in SC, USA. We hope to return again in 2009.! Martha
