The Natives are Restless:  One of the consequences, intended or not, of living outside of the United States is the distance one gains from the body politic; we harbor no regrets about being absent during the current election season....

Reflections on Living Abroad  Posted on 02/10/2012
I’ve been long away from my writing desk, the hiatus punctuated by a quick (5 day) and happy trip to San Diego, my first time on U.S. soil in nearly a year.  It was lovely to see my brother and sister, and then two of my nephews...

The Panama Hat:  I would like to think that I am not the only person who thought that a Panama Hat was made in Panama.  It may be that Cuban cigars are made in Cuba and Swiss timepieces are made in Switzerland, but the Panama Hat...

That Space Between Christmas and New Years  Posted on 12/28/2011
Without even lifting my head from the pillow, I am able to watch the sunrise over the Pacific Ocean every morning.  Dawn comes quickly in Panama, like a time-lapsed photograph in fast forward motion.  It still surprises me....

I enjoy your blog. My wife and I have retired (USA) and have bought a small home in Altos del Maria. Now the tough part. Any advice or referrals to someone that might know answers to our questions would be greatly appreciated. The first/next action is to ship the items we will be bringing with us. Any suggestions on moving companies not to use/ to consider using. Bad/ good experiences? Big question is medical. Anyone using medicare, tri care for life? Cost of health insurance? Good plan/ bad plan experience. Do you know of any US types living in Altos del Maria? Thank you for your beautiful blog. P;ease request to be added to my email when you respond. Richard

I enjoyed your beautiful writing. Quite a vivid description. Very helful for me since I am moving to PA in 8 months time. We will be visiting again in January and Altos de Maria is one of the places we would like to visit, even though our housing bias is towards PC. We are in our early sixties and would like to ask a few questions. Our email is nfoote1950@gmail.com
