Taiwanxifu
My blog Taiwanxifu (Taiwan daughter-in-law, pronounced 'Taiwan shee foo') is about my experiences in Taiwan. I am an Australian lady married to a wonderful Taiwanese guy (Sam). My blog aims to be a bridge to help people understand Taiwanese culture, especially its unique cuisine. I write about restaurant reviews, travel, cultural insights and recipes. Oh, and I don't mind sampling Taiwanese specialties such as stinky tofu and pigs blood cake, but I promise there is much more than this on the menu in Taiwan. I love exploring new places and discovering delicious morsels to sample.

My blog is named after my nickname ‘Taiwanxifu’ (pronounced ‘shee foo’), which means ‘Taiwan daughter-in-law’ in Mandarin Chinese. I am Australian, but have married a Taiwanese guy so most Taiwanese treat me as having ‘married into’ – thus the ‘Taiwanxifu’ nickname.
I met and married my husband in Australia but we have recently returned to Taiwan to work for the next few years. I originally started this blog as a vehicle to keep in touch with family and friends back home, and give them ideas for things to do when they visit. But my real interest is being a bridge to understand Taiwanese culture, especially its unique cuisine, and so my blog has morphed into restaurant reviews, travel and the odd cultural insight and recipe or two. Many of my restaurant critiques are based on a weekly food review column that I write for Taiwan's US 'Embassy' (the American Institute in Taiwan). Oh, and I don't mind sampling Taiwanese 'specialties' such as stinky tofu, pigs blood cake and even offally bits, but I promise that these are not the only things on the menu in Taiwan!
