This blog is about my experience of living here in the Philippines for the past year. It is a chronological writing but not with any regular frequency. Some of it concerns the uniqueness of the Philippines while other posts focus more on the commonality of human experience, no matter where or when.

I am from Massillon, Ohio in the U.S. I live in Ginatilan, with my wife, Emelie. We just purchased some property across the National Highway, from the sea. It's a great place to live. Ginatilan is a small town and its easy to make friends here. Most people speak English well enough to communicate.

    • Hello Sir,I too, am a short time away from leaving my cuerrnt North American residence for the beauty, and calm existence I have found in previous trips to the Philippines. While I don't worry much about the scams that might be there .at least no more than the ones I have encountered here at home, anyway ..I am sure your book would provide me with details that could offer shortcuts to my future retirement plans. But I have two concerns that I hope you can respond to, before I purchase:1. As you are American, it is easy to supect that your book will have a USA slant of the information provided that is not necessarily an issue, but as there are going to be complexities that exist here in Canada, that will affect my Philippine Visa application, I have to wonder if that important segment will be of much benefit to me. I will be curious to hear your opinion on my concerns.2. It appears that your book's pricing is not reflecting cuerrnt (2011/2012) International Currency Trading standards. It may be that this site has not been updated for a while, which I would understand, but I cannot accept paying a premium for a US dollar that has experienced a conversion slide for quite some time.Thank you for your help we can all learn from everyone we meet!Jim Stuart

      • Larry, I am from Austin, Texas. I have been
to Philippines 7 times , been all over the place there. I recommend Tagbilaran, Bohol. It is big enough for anything you want. but small enough and it is so beautiful, it has the Chocolate Mountains and Panglao Island.

Panglao has the world famous white sand beaches, good for a 2 day visit. The people in Tagbilaran are wonderful, and the most friendly , I have ever met in PI.Hope it helps you.

          • Mark, I love your blog... your language is sensitive and insightful. Your experience is music to my ears as I plan to move there for the same type of lifestyle including the charity to others and even the yoga. I especially like your attitude with religion, it is spot on with my own views... as well as your faithfulness to your wife's interests on the matter... just as I am. Maybe I will visit there one day and hope to meet you. My plan at this point is Siargao Island... been planning for about 8 months and looking at Feb-Mar 2012. Take care... keep enjoying your "real" life. Sincerely, Dean
