From Sydney to KL
In November 2011, one Sydney girl packed her bags and moved to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with the man she loves. This blog is about eating, drinking, shopping and sightseeing, and everything that happens in between as they build a new life together in this hot and humid city.

Moved to KL from Sydney with my boyfriend who is over here for work. We are both in our late 20s and keen to meet other expats in a similar situation.

Without knowing the particulars of your situation, how old you are or where you are from etc. I will say that expats can live very well in KL. Generally living costs (rent, food, transport) are a lot cheaper than other countries so your money goes a lot further - inner city living in a fancy furnished apartment with an amazing pool would be absolutely unthinkable for us back in Sydney! It is always hot and while the humidity can take some getting used to, it is nice to be able to wear shorts and flip flops every day. KL is quite relaxed which is good on the whole but can be frustrating in that things may take longer to get done than back home. You just adjust! KL is also much more cosmopolitan than I had expected before coming here and even if you are not familiar with local food (which is delicious) and culture, you will find everything you need from all over the world. And I have to also mention that being so centrally located is fantastic for travel both regionally in Asia and to other parts of the world - much closer and more affordable than back in Oz. Hope that helps! If you have any other questions give me a shout on this forum - my username is budge185.
Thanks
