Why am I doing this (and as importantly, why am I writing a blog about it)? I'm doing it for research purposes. Writing fiction about expats having 'fish out of water' misadventures in new countries necessitates a certain amount of real-life experience to draw upon. So I'm the proverbial fish, as it were. And I'm writing a blog about it because, firstly, I am a writer after all, and these experiences will in fact form some of the basis for my next book (THE EXPAT DIARIES II, info on the first one, THE EXPAT DIARIES . I'm also doing it because my mother is very uncomfortable about the idea of me moving alone to a new city, so it might make her feel better to know what I'm doing. Then again it might scare the crap out of her ... you never can tell with these things.
