And Away We Go!

I am an American living in Cairo, Egypt. I quit my job in June 2011 to move here to be with my fiance. This blog chronicles my experiences as I plan a wedding from across the globe, learn how to survive in a new culture and prepare myself for marriage. Enjoy.

Hi I am April. My boyfriend is moving to Egypt (cairo)soon and I am considering moving in the winter (Jan/Feb ish). Would like to know how it is living there as an American woman who doesn't speak Arabic. Also want to know what the job market is like. I am currently a project manager for a medical software company in the USA. Interested in marketing positions.

I am Bianca and I moved in Egypt in March to follow my boyfriend and I love to get other women's perspective of what life is like here..
I loved your Siwa post, I've been there and I think the pictures you took are really great and give the pefect idea of how magic that place is!
Congratulations!
Im British and lived in cairo for almost 8 years I am married to a local girl and we have a wonderful little girl now. Im lazy with languages so I must confess I have never full learned Arabic but it hasn't stopped me (I get by but really I should be fluent). I have set up 3 international companies during my time in Egypt and each has become highly successful (I only wish I had taken share options) I work as an independent business development consultant in the Middle East and I can tell you there is work out there just don't expect the same salary structure you enjoyed at home. But $ - pound its about the same with the exception of cars and apartment rentals but general day to day stuff dining out have ing fun its $ to pound the same. If you earned $2,000 a month in the States you can live a very similar lifestyle for EGP2,000 per month in cairo (excluding accm). Anyway enjoy your journey and don't be daunted it is a wicked ride.
I would like to know how this works for you. Please share how things are going since your move.

I am very interested to follow you on the journey. I would like to know how everything is going with you, if you care to share. Thank you,
